Smoky Mountain Hiking Club Skyline from Knoxville

Picture
Buckeye

Picture
Basswood

How well do you know your Smoky Mountains? Have a hard time remembering which mountain peak is which? This sign will help your remember. The image originally appeared in Smoky Mountain Hiking Club Handbooks in the late 1920's. Last October I got permission from the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club Board of Directors to engrave this image with the promise I would donate $5 for each sign I sold. So with every sign sold you are helping me and the Club. Both the Basswood and Buckeye I use are locally sourced from a family owned lumber mill that's not very far from the Smokies. In fact, it comes from the Little Snowbird Creek watershed a little South of the Smokies. While many species of trees are in high demand and are precious resources, both Basswood and Buckeye are an underused resource without much if any demand. I buy my lumber Green and Fresh cut and use a combination of air and kiln drying before making it into a sign. All signs have been sanded by hand and have at least 3 coats of finish(front and back). They also come with a hanger to mount on the wall.
